A bespoke incident response plan for your small business

When something goes wrong with your computers or email, the first hour is easier if you already know who calls whom and who gets to decide. Sitalingi Cybersecurity writes that down for your business, in plain language you can follow on a bad day. All of the work is done remotely, wherever your business is.

for one company at one location, with one revision included.

Who it is for

Owners of small businesses who do not have a security team, wherever they are located. The usual fit is a company of about 5 to 50 people that leans on an outside IT person or a managed service provider, a bank, an insurer, and a lawyer, but has never put the pieces together in one document.

Three situations the plan covers

  1. A ransom note, or files that were renamed. Someone opens a folder and the files have odd new names, or a note asks for payment.
  2. A mailbox acting on its own. Mail went out that nobody sent, a forwarding rule appeared that nobody made, or an email asks you to pay a vendor at a new bank account.
  3. A lost or stolen laptop. A work laptop is gone from a car, a coffee shop, or the office.

For each one, the plan says who does what first, who may make the hard calls, and which of your outside contacts to bring in.
